The temperature remained low and the day of the wedding was very cold. This was great for the snow, but not so great for outdoor portraits. We had to try and keep our cameras and our wedding party as warm as possible. Luckily, we had some extra mittens and gloves in the car that were quickly distributed in the hopes of keeping people just a bit warmer as we set up a few shots in a hay barn. Angel and Shawn even braved the elements for a quick walk on horseback down a short trail, but I’m sure that everyone was happy to do the remainder of the photos indoors.

We had a wonderful time at your wedding; thank you for allowing us to be an important part of your day.

Angel and Shawn’s wedding ceremony and reception took place indoors at the beautiful Victoria Park Pavilion in Kitchener and the wedding party portraits were at Horseback Adventures.

It was nice to see the two of you again. We are looking forward to your wedding in January!

It was raining all day (in fact, it rained all weekend), but the ceremony was set to be indoors, so this didn’t affect a whole lot. We weren’t able to do any outdoor photos, but the interior of the Summit Centre was very nice with a large fireplace and beautiful decor.

Everyone in the wedding party looked fantastic right down to Tyran, the handsome ring bearer and his big sister Kenadie, the littlest flower girl.

P.S. We hope our spot on the beach will be waiting for us next August.

One of the great things about being a photography team is having the opportunity to capture both sides as they get ready for the wedding. I started my day at the hotel with Karen while Ryan met up with Char at their house. While going through the photos afterward, it was interesting to see that we both took photos of the brides’ dresses at the exact same time even though we were in two different places.

The ceremony was beautiful, the weather was wonderful for the portraits at Rockway Gardens, and the reception was lively with plenty of people on the dance floor. It was a day full of joy.

We had a great time at your wedding, Karen & Char; we wish you a lifetime of happiness.

We had a great time getting to know you guys better and we’re looking forward to photographing your wedding next year!

The wedding ceremony took place in the Rose Chapel at Kitchener City Hall and the reception was in the Crystal Ballroom at the Walper Terrace Hotel.

Between the ceremony and reception, we headed to Victoria Park for some group and couple portraits near the recently reconstructed entrance to the park and the clock tower.

It was a wonderful evening and was very nice to have the three locations so close together! The ceremony site, portrait location, and reception hall were all just a few blocks apart.

Congratulations, Lisa and Ian! We wish you and the girls a lifetime of happiness.

It was great to see the excitement on everyone’s face this morning, perhaps it was just fear! Just as the race started, it so did the rain. After the initial start, I hopped into the car and headed to my first spot to shoot. It was at the top of a hill about 2km into the race. Shooting at the top of a hill can usually produce some good shots, but you have to do it at the start of the race before everyone looks too tired. The rain was also not too good for shooting because it makes pics look soft (or blurry).

After the top of the hill, I headed to a spot that is part of a trail system, but is still paved. This section is also beside a golf course (Grey Silo) but you can not see the course because of a hill along the trial. This became a favourite spot of mine to shoot last year simply because there is nothing but green all around.

I then headed to one of the water stations near RIM park, trying (unsuccessfully) to get that classic splashing Gatorade at the hand off shot. Even better would have been the water (or Gatorade!) over the head shot, but none came.

I was going to head back to the start/finish, but decided instead to go to a spot near a turn around. A turn around in a small (number of participants) race. Basically the reason I like turn-arounds, is that you get to shoot runners in 2 different places without moving. I also did something I have never done before in a race, I pulled out my stool. A super-lightweight tripod type that folds very small.

I then headed back to the finish, to grab a bite to eat. One of the things that makes the ENDURrun stand out is the food. To quote Paul Mora, “There is not a crusty bagel in sight!”. The food here is amazing, and there is always something for everyone. Unfortunately for me, I have a bad habit of grabbing a burger and continuing to shoot. One of these days, I will sit down to eat.

Update: I apologize for not getting pics up earlier, Picasa now defaults to “Hidden” instead of public. So they were there, you just couldn’t see them!

Last year, I shot all but one of the stages, and Vicki joined me shooting on one and a half (she came later for the full marathon) of the stages. This year, fortunately and unfortunately, I have a full time job so can only shoot 4 of the stages.

Vicki, is running it this year. Yep, she has taken the week off and is going to run the EndurRun. I am envious of her, not because she has the week off work, defiantly not because she is running a hundred miles, but because she will have a great week with a bunch of great people. As I am at work, i will be wishing I was there shooting.

I tried to do blog posts last year after every stage, but that quickly stopped as I just didn’t have the time to do one every day. I am not sure what makes me think I will have more time this year, but I will still try to do one every day. I am sure Vicki will be doing posts at her blog.

We didn’t quite know what to expect; we’ve never done a shoot at a gym before. Ian and Lisa hopped into the ring with their girls and were ready for some photos. We did some family photos and some couple shots as well.

This was the second annual Dirty Dash part of the Waterloo Running Series and numbers were up greatly from last year. In case you missed it last year (on my old blog), the Dirty Dash is a 4km and 8km race with an interesting end. If finishes in a 100ish metre long mud pit that runners must run through while crawling under flags set no more then a couple feet above the two feet deep mud pit.

There are many challenges shooting this type of event. First, you don’t get a lot of practice, since there are not a lot of events like it. Second, to say it is a challenge not to get dirty is an understatement. I was prepared to get covered by mud and had some old shorts and my Keen Newport’s on, but this year for some reason, I got extra dirty. No Problem though, they had showers set up for everyone to clean off (including the photographer!). I also had on my trusty Rain Sleeves, which are basically plastic bags that go over the camera and have a hole for the eyepiece, the lens and to get your hand in there. I have never used them in a real rain storm and they do not protect the front of the lens, but they are good in a light shower or a situation like this. The best part is that they are fairly cheep. The bad part, is that on days like that, it gets very sweaty!

Another cool part of this event was that the press was out in droves, well OK, just a couple of reporters, but reporters none the less. CKCO did a story on the race which can be found here. (watch for me a few times!) and CBC is yet to air its story but I will post a link it when it airs.
